DVF literally perfected layering in this collection. The immense complexity to each piece here is stunning. She based her collection around optimism — a very nice sentiment considering she showed on September 11th. While DVF is known for her prints, she took them to a new level in this collection, alternating between absolutely intense and more mellow.While I didn’t show any of the wildly intense ones (oops!) it’s not a stretch of anyone’s imagination to picture a one piece DVF printed wonder. The trick of the collection was the way that the pieces that were pattern on pattern were much more toned down — she balanced out the visual intensity by contrasting the prints: a brilliant technique in my opinion. She also appealed to the less pattern inclined consumer with her gorgeous and surprisingly calm sequined pieces. The bubble dresses with a shimmery slip underneath worked completely. She worked almost exclusively in beautiful pastels to make the lightest, simplest feeling collection. That’s the amazing thing here — this collection feels so airy and simple while in reality each look is composed of multiple layers and complex patterns. She’s perfected her cuts and created an alternate universe where this is a simple, casual style. This is possible her most shoppable collection — A+.
