Fall 2011: Nicole Miller

3 Nov

Geometry was a key aspect in the Fall Nicole Miller collection. While I wasn’t blown away by the earlier parts of the show — a set of many different looks all in the same blue on black tie-dye style pattern as is in the first look — the end pieces really caught me by surprise. In particular, the grey base color with the pinks and reds in a sunrise style on top in just one chunked section. Once the color palette changed up a bit, the geometrics became much more interesting. The dresses with harshly angled straps had so much character and I loved the black two piece play-suit with the harsh angles. A lot of my problem with this collection was that many of the ensembles were overwhelming to the eye in the look but as individual pieces, when looked at more intensely after the runway, were much more interesting and less intense.
