Fall 2011: Tory Burch

3 Nov

This was definitely different from what I expected from Burch. There was much less of an emphasis on preppy chic and more on seventies and trends: “UK Countryside meets American Sportswear” is how she defined it. Completely outside of her comfort zone, Burch took the seventies theme to a level so far unseen at a very era heavy Fashion Week. The heavy knits and plaids completely felt on point with her goal of countryside vs. sportswear, pieces I would like to cuddle up in while in front of a fire in a small English suburb. She did some heavy print combinations — brilliantly combining different variations on stripe with different variations on plaid in multitudes of colors. That look is by far my favorite. It’s taken to other extremes and combined with the masculine trend with khaki colored plaid, thick jackets with pants or jackets and skirts. There wasn’t much evening wear in the collection other than the wonderful jackets with fur lining.
