Spring 2011: Gucci

3 Nov

Designer, Frida Giannini dubbed this collection “Sophisticated Seduction.” While it’s certainly an odd title, it sums up the collection very well. Rather than pieces that overdo it with wow-factor — as sometimes is the case with Gucci — this collection shows an either/or theme with the line. I’ll explain — instead of having intense, bright colors with huge embellishments and designs, this collection chooses one or the other. For the bright looks (i.e. the first two selections), the design is beautiful and the colors are bold but there is little else going on. The third look is a muted color but has gold and intricate embellishing along the belt and cleavage line. The intense snake-patterned jacket is paired with pants and the fringed and exotic dresses are one tone dresses. I prefer this either/or thing because when there is embellishing on the looks it emphasizes them rather than having other colors and stimuli detract from their intricacy, thereby defeating the purpose of having them. This was a very fun collection, very enjoyable and filled with lust worthy pieces.
