Spring 2012: Hervé Léger

11 Nov

This is potentially the first collection I’ve ever seen by Léger with multiple variations in the cuts. Azria didn’t stray from the body hugging, bandage dresses but he did really switch up the way they fit on the body. The most startling was the fringed and deconstructed white dress. The way that it was barely held together with just the little bars clasping each part of the dress — really, really different for him. I also loved the very Halle Berry pewter/bronze/rose gold? one with the variations in straps. The gladiator sandals were so old to me, very dated. That was one trend I really never got on top of. I just was pleasantly surprised by the completely original ideas that really backed this collection up. From A to Z, Azria broke out of his self-imposed restrictions. While each piece didn’t hit me and I won’t remember this show as one of the best, it’s an impressive feat to finally change direction after so long.
