Fall 2012: DKNY

There’s something about the consistency in the backdrop for DKNY that bothers me. It is identical to that from Spring and it just feels wrong — feels the same, feels…yup, the same. Where Donna Karan failed in her high-end endeavors, her beat generation inspired diffusion line completely succeeded. It was a really intelligent collection, original in all the ways that Donna Karan’s menswear inspiration was trite and conventional. The looks were chic and business ready. The cuts were retro but so modern in their execution. I don’t know exactly what the cut is called (but will obviously spend the rest of the day aiming to find out) where it curves up and not a drop waist — the exact antithesis to a drop waist in fact. This style was everywhere and super beautiful. There was a huge amount of black and leather in the collection with some black leather corset style bits. I loved the way the casual gray worked in these pieces — kind of like a ski style bit but also really professional, the kind of thing it wouldn’t be weird at all to wear to work or on the slopes. Definitely DKNY’s top collection — stunning, truly.
