Spring 2012: Vera Wang

16 Feb

Vera Wang’s inspiration from Alice in Wonderland was completely evident. This collection was pretty cool yet also a bit boring after a while. There was a plethora of mini peplum hot pants and even peplums that were detachable for other wild pieces. The Alice piece came in with the organization — the show started in Alice’s innocence with a huge series of whites in various forms. Then came the wild LSD trip of neons and swirls. They amazed me — truly amazed me with their originality and trippy pieces. She drew some of the patterns from 18th century wall paper apparently, which is a really fabulous inspiration. The ending of the show was all in black to wrap it all up and package it perfectly in the story. Most of these pieces are impossible to picture off the runway in their wild conception and the way they work together. Yet, some pieces like the shoes are hot sellers, I can tell now.
