ADR: “The Bay” Exhibition

7 Nov

How absolutely adorable is this? These are photos taken from the opening of Anna & Tommy’s exhibition in Toronto. This custom Erdem jacket was a gift and how cute are they together! It’s a real meeting of the most creative minds in the business…love it. Wish I could go to Toronto and see the exhibit.

Now, I’m fuzzy as to the chronology of these photos because strangely (or not so considering it’s Anna Dello Russo we’re discussing), she is wearing multiple outfits. I first assumed it was different days of this exhibition but Stacey (in the Jil Sander, slap yourself if you couldn’t immediately identify that) is in other pictures in the same Spring 2011 piece. Confusing? Yes. I don’t know who each piece is by but I’d put money on the skirt being Mary Katrantzou. The designer and Dello Russo have a relationship and it just reeks of Katrantzou’s unusual design acumen.

This is undeniably Mary Katrantzou. SS 2011. Deadly and beautiful and I just want to drink it up and try on one of those amazingly intricate couture pieces. She paired it with Charlotte Olympia pumps with cute little bows.

Again, I think this is a brilliant photo. The idea is simple but the Roksanda Ilincic photo is just so powerful that it is an amazing contrast to the simplicity of the portrait of Anna. The dress is Giles ss’11. Love, love, love as usual.

Fall 2011 RTW: Shoes, Shoes, Shoes…

7 Nov

So many killer pumps with such a retro feel — the really thick heel is back in a big way and I love the way it was reinvented. So many killer styles but there were some amazing pieces. There was way more snakeskin than usual but the colors and use was definitely unusual and so killer. Lots of booties and wedges, lot of modernism. The Louis Vuitton pumps with the cute little white bow straps were my absolute favorites though in the entire season. They’re on point with the time and simple, classic, feminine… What are your top picks?

Fall 2011: Erdem

Talk about the ultimate romanticism collection with the designer, Erdem Moralioglu inspired by Jackson Pollack’s wife after watching the film “Pollack.” Knowing he was inspired by an aspect of this film really explains so much of the designs. The prints so represent Pollack’s unique style and these type of print literally creates the collection. While last summer, Erdem was more focused on the youthful aspect of femininity, for this season he focused on the intensity of womanhood. There were some really stand out pieces, the dresses at the end of the collection were literally breathtaking. I love how they were all working from the same idea but had such distinct styles. He joined silk and velvet of the same print a lot which created unique outfits. I really loved this collection and was quite impressed by how different but equally fascinating it was to Spring’s beautiful collection.

Spring 2011: Erdem

Inspiration for this show stemmed from ballerinas (an accurate prediction for the trend spurred by “The Black Swan”). The lace and florals were interesting, and beautiful. I especially loved the red lace look — which reminded me of Gaga’s McQueen red lace dress from the VMA’s in 2009 — this dress is much more wearable and paired with stunning red wrap pumps. Great show, great collection.
