Fall 2012: BCBG Max Azria

9 Feb

AND SO IT BEGINS!!

As a big BCBG girl, my followers will remember I was more than a little disappointed in the Spring 2012 collection. Both Spring 2011 and Fall 2011 were pretty revolutionary for the design duo and that is reflected in the growth in popularity. Since the Fall 2011 collection, Max and Lubov have been working with a geometric and tulle/silk combination theme. This is a trend that was not halted before this new collection. The strict lines and colorblocking, the Bauhaus inspiration (or as they put it to WWD, “an artful proposition”) and the retro cuts that work so well with the flowing silk — this was a stunning collection to start the Fall/Winter 2012 season. Where this collection diverged from the past few is the emphasis on outerwear. The geometric vests with fur, the long-sleeved and leather trimmed jackets — they reeked of antiquity and grace. The most surprising aspect of this collection was the complete deliciousness of the combination of melon orange and grey — an amazing combination that I would never ever fain to think would be as alluring as it is.
